Lets look at disabling windows update. This can be a torn in the ass, for most of us who look for ways to minimize our data usage, the worst of all is that this is a background process that notifies through the system tray only, so most time you don't know that update is in process until you are prompted to restart the system.
Lets get to work,
Open the start menu,
Click on Control Panel,
Change Category at the right hand side to small icons,
Then click on windows update
On the left panel Click on Change settings
Open the dropdown menu under the "Important Updates" header, and click on never check for updates
