How to password protect flash drive in less than 5mins

In my previous article, I taught us How to secure your local disk with BitLocker, now I want to show you how to password protect flash drive using the following simple steps.

But if you wish to password a particular file then refer to our previous article on how to do that.

Before you store valuable information in your USB drive

If you have friends or siblings who tend to touch your personal properties without your consent then this article is for you. 

Then without further ado, let's get to business on how to password protect flash drive.

The tool we are going to use for this is the windows BitLocker tool which is available in Windows 7 and later versions of windows.

Follow the steps below to Password protect flash drive

  • Insert your USB flash drive
  • Navigate to Control Panel 
  • In the search box type in "BitLocker" without quotes
  • password protect flash drive
  • On the Search result page Manage BitLocker
  • Now locate your flash drive under the Removable devices section 
  • password protect a flash drive
  • Click on it, then click on Turn on BitLocker
  • bitlocker turn on
  • A new window will pop up, check the password box
  • Then enter the desired password and confirm (password must be a combination of letters, numbers, symbols, etc)
  • enter bitlocker password
  • Click next and choose the first method of encryption which is entire device encryption, and click next to save encryption recovery file
  • Start encryption (this might take some time depending on the volume of files and the size of the drive)

How to Password protect flash drive
