Recently, I tried connecting my Android phone to my PC but windows not detecting Android phone for reasons I don't know. At first, I thought it was a cable issue, an tried using another USB cable but to no avail. I even went as far as trying different phones but no luck.
After trying the above steps without luck the next thing that came to my mind was to check for driver issues and I was right.
So just follow the simple steps I used to fix windows not detecting android phones.
With your phone plugged in Navigate to control panel>>Hardware and Sound>>Device Manager.
Under other devices locate the device labeled unknown device, right-click on it and click on update driver. If you are connected to the internet, try the first step that's searching automatically online.
This might or might not fix this issue. If it was successful, just go to windows explorer and you will see your device staring at you.

But if you get an error message like the one below 
Right-click on the unknown device and click on update drivers, this time choose the second option which is browse my computer for software driver,
then choose let me pick from a list of device drivers,
Select Android phone or Android device whichever one that appears and click next,
Choose any of the listed drivers and click next to install.
If you still can't find your device in the windows explorer, repeat the last step and choose another driver from the list.
If after the above steps windows not detecting android phone, another step to take is to Restore your PC to a previous state.
If there is no luck with system restore the only option left is to re-install windows. But this should be the last resort because you will certainly be loosing files.
